Everyone's talking about GreenGrid®, the vegetative roof system with the most design flexibility and repairability ever developed. And Mule-Hide offers single-ply roofing for the GreenGrid® system.
This
innovative vegetative roof technology can boost a building's bottom line
and attractiveness. Simplicity
of design and flexibility are the hallmarks of the system, which is
geared toward the needs of hospitality, industrial, commercial, institutional,
and government facilities.
Vegetative roofs help reduce air pollution, energy problems, and provide stormwater management. GreenGrid® offers these benefits with many additional advantages for a "better way" versus the "Old way", the European built-in-place method.
GreenGrid® vegetative modules (see photo at left) arrive at the worksite preplanted (pre-grown option) in proprietary growing media that meets FLL specs, ready for installation. These interlocking modules are composed of 100% pre-consumer recycled plastics to earn LEED recycled content points. Additional LEED points are possible for stormwater design-quantity control, heat island effect-roof, water efficient landscaping, optimize energy performance, regional materials, and innovation and design process.
Did you know? Over 1.4 Million square feet of GreenGrid® has
been installed since 2001. |

TPO is the affordable white roof and the fastest growing membrane in the industry due to its energy saving, cool roof properties. Ideal when a partial vegetative roof is desired, so the exposed roof areas offer a bright white, cool roofing surface.
- 8' & 10' wide sheets mean lesslabor and lesswaste
- Reinforced for minimal shrinkage, a major factor affecting membrane performance and longevity
- One of the thickest top plies in the industry for watertight integrity, yet lightweight
- Resists impact, wind uplift, and the harshest elements of weather
- Environmentally friendly with no plasticizer or chlorinated ingredients
- Mule-Hide TPO is CRRC® rated, meets Energy Star®
- Standard TPO- .045, .060, and .080 mil in white, gray, or tan
- Self-Adhering TPO- .045 or .060 mil in white
- GreenGrid vegetative modules are pre-planted with projectspecificrecommended plants in proprietary growing medium - extensiveand intensive designsavailable
- Optional Ecoballast modules are filled with stone ballast and drilled with drainage holes at proper distance from top to pre-determine and control stormwater retention

GreenGrid®
Modular Solutions Advantages |
European Method Disadvantages
(Traditional Built-in-Place) |
| Built-in Water Retention |
Modules offer built-in water retention for ideal stormwater management |
Water retention layers must be added |
| Controlled Water Retention |
Ecoballast® modules augment stormwater retention without plants and growing media |
Not available |
| Quick Installation |
Delivered pre-planted, ready to set in place, reduced downtime due to weather |
Multi-layer, built-in-place, time consuming |
| Competitive Installed Cost |
Competitive installed cost versus leading built-in-place systems |
New roof surface plus mat, drainage, root barrier, moisture retention layers often costly |
| Engineered, Consistent System |
Components engineered to work together, preplanted, optimizing production and consistency |
Customized by project, multiple sourcing, limited consistency and production speed |
Lightweight for Existing/
New Roofs |
Lightweight - installs on any existing roof surface in good condition (structurally sound building) |
Systems often heavy and roof surface replacement often required |
| Easy Rooftop Placement |
All system components easily placed on carts, can be taken to rooftop in building elevator |
Components delivered to rooftop by multiple sources, multiple deliveries, usually cranes |
| Vegetative Roof Section Installation |
Option of installing vegetative roof in sections offers opportunity for future add-ons |
More difficult and expensive to not cover entire roof due to edge design requirements |
| LEED® Recycling & Other Credits |
GreenGrid modules made from 100% recycled materials (additional points for other aspects) |
Generally do not have components containing recycled materials |
| Instantly Green |
Can be pre-planted in advance to be mature at time of installation (or more affordable plugs) |
Roof generally requires about 2 years to be "green" |
| Easy to Design & Alter |
Flexibility, ease of design, ability to later make alterations including additions |
Difficult to alter due to multiple layers of materials and edge design requirements |
| Easy Leak Detection & Repair |
Modules can easily be moved and replaced without disturbing growing media or plantings |
Excavation, textile layers cut & rolled back until leak found, plants and layers damaged |
| Wrap-Around Warranty |
GreenGrid installed as part of a Mule-Hide Living Roof™ offers a NDL Wrap-Around Warranty |
Limited Warranty - Removal & reinstallation of plants/vegetation generally not included |
