Product Spotlight: Helix® Low-Rise Adhesive
Introducing Helix® Low-Rise Adhesive, the new addition to our Helix family of low-rise adhesives. It delivers the strong bond and quick, easy, low-odor application that have made Helix Max Low-Rise Adhesive contractors’ go-to solution for attaching roof insulations, thermal barriers, cover boards and fleece back single-ply membranes.
Generally available at a lower price point than Helix Max, though, it gives contractors an additional option that may reduce costs when bead application will be used to install insulation and cover boards, or when Helix Max’s wider low-temperature application window is not needed.
Like Helix Max, Helix is a volatile organic compound (VOC)-free two-component, construction-grade polyurethane foam adhesive designed to bond approved roof insulations, thermal barriers, cover boards and fleece back single-ply membranes (TPO, PVC and PVC KEE) to a wide variety of roofing substrates. It is applied in a single step, saving crews time and hassle. Both parts of the adhesive are ready to use from the container and are applied simultaneously in a 1:1 ratio through a static mix tip.
Helix is applied in continuous beads when installing insulation and cover boards. Bead application or splatter coat coverage can be used to adhere fleece back single-ply membranes.
It is available in twin-pack cartridges and 15- and 50-gallon drums. A Twist Lock hose connection is inserted into drums for fast, easy connections to equipment dispensers.
Helix is low-odor and solvent-free and contains no VOCs, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), benefiting crews, building occupants and the environment. The drums feature an HFO (hydrofluoroolefin) blowing agent that complies with regulations requiring their use in pressurized two-part urethane foams and adhesives.
Key differences between Helix and Helix Max include:
- The cold-weather installation window is slightly smaller for Helix. When applying Helix, the substrate and ambient temperatures must be above 32 F vs. 25 F for Helix Max. With both products, the adhesive temperature must be at least 70 F during application.
- Bead application is specified when using Helix to install insulation and cover boards. Either splatter or bead application can be used with Helix Max.
- Coverage rates vary slightly between the two adhesives.
