Detec TruGround Conductive Primer is a patented water-based epoxy developed specifically for use in electronic testing of conventional roofing assemblies. Once applied to a non-conductive substrate, such as wood, insulation or coverboard, the primer enables electronic leak detection (ELD) testing of the membrane for the life of the roof. Detec TruGround Conductive Primer is placed on the substrate directly below the membrane. Any other conductive mediums placed below the coverboard will result in invalid leak detection tests.

ELD is a quality-control testing procedure designed to locate discontinuities in waterproofing and roofing membranes. ELD determines the location of the membrane discontinuities (breaches/seam voids) by applying an electrical current to the surface of the membrane. ELD can also be called: electronic water test, electronic breach detection, membrane integrity testing, membrane integrity survey, and electrical conductance testing. ELD can be low-voltage or high-voltage.

“Leak detection system” can have different meanings depending on who you ask. A conductive medium below the membrane is often referred to as a “system.” The testing technology also can be referred to as a “system.” Mule-Hide Products considers a “system” to be an embedded, monitored product, distinguishing between control tests (such as IntegriScan), conductive mediums (such as Detec TruGround Conductive Primer), and fully monitored leak detection systems (such as PermaScan).

Yes. Detec TruGround Conductive Primer is listed in more than 10,200 Mule-Hide Products RoofNav assemblies. RoofNav-listed assemblies are insurable by FM. Tests conducted by FM showed that the addition of a conductive medium between the membrane and substrate did not affect the performance of these roof systems, including adhesion and wind uplift. Details on approved roofing assemblies can be found at RoofNav.com. Additional options are available when the building is not insured by FM but a Mule-Hide Products system warranty is desired. Detec TruGround Conductive Primer is applied using a brush or a 3/8-inch nap roller in a single-sided application. Gaps between substrate boards must first be filled to ensure electrical continuity. Detec TruGround Conductive Primer should be liberally applied with a brush to any gaps wider than 1/8-inch. For larger gaps, conductive tape is recommended. A thin coat of the primer should then be spread over the entire project area using a 3/8-inch nap roller. If the surface is black, the primer has been applied to an acceptable thickness.

Ambient temperatures must be 40°F and rising when applying Detec TruGround Conductive Primer.

Yes. The primer should be completely dry before membrane attachment. It typically dries in less than 30 minutes, though longer drying times can be expected in cooler temperatures.
